I mostly use AbleSet for original artists but I keep finding so many great uses of the new features for my function band.
First off, a basic canvas to help improve the Lyrics image view for me as a guitarist to read charts. One thing I’ve wanted to add to Lyrics is visibility on the current and next song when using full screen images. You can set one or the other but not both - so if I have a song with lyric images, I don’t know what’s next, and if I don’t have any lyric images on a song, I don’t know what song I’m currently on. A conundrum… but enter the mighty Canvas!
Shows the current and next song at the top and bottom. I title my chart sheets, but if I didn’t, the song name at the top would keep me right. This also works well when I don’t have a chart:
Easy peasy. I love it!
Next up, another basic one for Guitar/MD stuff which I think I’m going to use for this band instead of the Performance view.
This is a fairly basic band that doesn’t require looping, or mid-song stops. When I’m in the MD role and the laptop is next to me, I just need to know what the setlist is, and how long we have left. (I display the charts on my tablet.) I control the playback either with keyboard keys or the Oakboard Floor Vista - the ‘play’ button is there just to confirm that the track is running as it changes to a pause icon.
I love that we can show an approximate finish time. Perhaps in the fullness of time if breakpoints become a thing then we can also have a time remaining til the end of a particular selection of songs. This is still great though.
Don’t sleep on Canvases. There’s so much potential here.
