Pinned Support Guide: Support Inbox, Log Packages, and Safe Data Sharing

Hi @leolabs ,

I’d like to suggest creating a pinned post in the Support category that explains how diagnostic information should be submitted.

The same instructions — creating a Log Package and uploading it to the Support Inbox — are understandably repeated in many support threads. A single, easy-to-find post could provide the current AbleSet Support Inbox link and serve as a reference for both users and support staff.

It would also be helpful if the post explained:

  • How to create a Log Package, ideally after reproducing the issue.
  • Exactly what a Log Package contains in the current AbleSet version.
  • Whether project files are included automatically or only with the user’s consent.
  • Which information may be sensitive—for example, personal file paths, computer names, network addresses, project and song names, mappings, account or licence information, and other project-specific data.
  • Whether users should inspect or redact anything before uploading the package.
  • How the uploaded data is stored, who can access it, how long it is retained, and how users can request its deletion.
  • Which information is appropriate to share publicly in a forum post and which should only be sent privately through the Support Inbox.

A short “public versus private” checklist would be especially useful. For example, version numbers, operating-system details, a general description of the setup, and redacted error messages may be suitable for the forum, while complete logs, .als files, project folders, licence details, personal file paths, and network information may be better submitted privately.

This information would make the support process clearer, help users provide the right diagnostic material from the beginning, and reduce the risk of accidentally posting sensitive data publicly.

Thank you for considering it! :hand_with_index_finger_and_thumb_crossed:

Hey @Tabora, that’s a good idea! I’ve created a post (unlisted for now) here: Creating a Log Package

Let me know if you’re missing anything
