Dynamic Voice Cue for Next Song Based on AbleSet Setlist

Hi everyone,

I’m new to AbleSet, so apologies in advance if this is something obvious or already possible — I may have missed it.

I’m trying to find out whether there is a way to do the following:

When a song reaches its Song End marker, I’d like a voice cue to play that announces the name of the next song.

Ideally, I’d like this to work dynamically with AbleSet’s setlists.
If I change the order of songs in a setlist, is it possible for AbleSet to automatically recognize the next song in the active setlist and adapt the voice cue accordingly, without having to manually edit or rename audio cues inside Ableton each time?

I couldn’t find any documentation or example about this, so I’m not sure if this feature already exists or if it’s simply not possible.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hey @Mousse09, welcome to the forum!

That’s a good question, and it’s a very understandable use case.

At the moment, AbleSet doesn’t have a built-in way to dynamically announce the next song at the SONG END locator based on the active setlist order. So there’s currently no automatic “look ahead” voice cue that adapts itself when you reorder songs in the setlist.

I’m not sure how doable this is internally, but I’ll pass this along.

As a workaround, one thing you can do today is this:

  • Create a short voice cue with the current song name

  • Place it at the 1st beat of the count-in on your click track (or a dedicated guide/cue track)

That way, every time you hit Play, you’ll immediately hear the name of the song you’re about to perform.
It’s not exactly the same as announcing the next song at Song End, but in practice it often works well — and it also acts as a nice fail-safe on stage.

Let me know if that could fit your use case!

Thanks a lot for the clear explanation!

The workaround you suggested (announcing the current song at the count-in) could definitely be useful as a fail-safe, so I’ll give that a try.
Do you think this would be something worth posting as a request in the Feature Requests section?

Thanks again for the help!

Thanks for the suggestion , and glad the workaround might be useful!

@leolabs is already in the loop. That said, I’m not sure how doable this would be in the foreseeable future, so I can’t really say whether or when something like this might happen.

For now, I’d suggest giving the count-in voice cue approach a try and seeing if it fits your workflow. It’s not exactly the same behavior, but in practice it can be a solid and reliable solution on stage.

Thanks again for bringing this up, and feel free to share how it works for you!
