Difficulties using MacOS Default for TTS/Cues

Hi!

Im using 3.1.3 and starting to work with the Cue function, for now just with the song stop descriptions.. Want to use the MacOS default; I have enabled a Siri voice in the system settings. Selected MacOS Default in the ableset settings. However, there is no audio output whatsoever. PiperTTS works correctly, however I’d prefer the Siri voice as I want to use it for German text as well. Any tipps what might be the problem? After selecting - do I need to restart anything (ableset? Ableton?). Any help is appreciated!

Best, Sebastian

and another question: any option to make a Midi Channel containing text which is then used to generate auto TTS output? I.e., similar to the lyrics track, but used as TTS to audio? Would be great to use for specific show information, e.g. reminding musicians where to stand in specific parts when using a timecode-based lightship etc.

Best,

Sebastian

Hey @Sebastian, the macOS TTS takes a lot longer to generate cues compared to the Piper TTS voices. After selecting the default voice in the settings, you should see a “Generating x phrases…” status in the “Mac System TTS” heading.

Once all cues have been generated, everything should work as expected. This only needs to be done once as generated cues are stored in your project folder.

Regarding your 2nd question, you could create a new MIDI track and name it “Cues +OSC [/cues/say] [single]”, then place MIDI clips with the phrases you’d like the TTS to speak on it.

If you’re using the macOS TTS, speaking a phrase might take a few seconds the first time as it needs to be generated first, but they’ll be spoken immediately every time after that once they’re cached.

Let me know if this helps!

Hey, unfortunately I still do not get the Mac OS TTS working - there is simply no folder appearing neither in the ableset main directory, nor in the ableset project folder. Even after playing trough some of the test textes, no audio output and no folder.

Any Idea?

@Sebastian that’s strange. Could you send me a log package so I can take a closer look at what might be going wrong under the hood? You can upload it to my support inbox.

If you’re comfortable using the Terminal on macOS, could you try running the command say Hello and check if that outputs any audio?

I’m looking forward to your reply!

Hey, for now I got it working with “Sophie”, I’ll fiddle around with MacOS later. However, one point: with “auto speak song titles” and “auto speak stop descriptions” they get in the way of each other = song title interrupts the stop description. Any solution for this? Would be great if the song title gets played as soon as the stop description is finished - any way to make this happen?

E.g. how to delay the stop descriptions systematically by x ms? Or the song titles? (Maybe both useful anyways not to get in the way of the last seconds of the last song….)

Any idea for this? I put the song names into a midi track manually, which I then delay by a fixed amount. However, is there a way to delay the song descriptions?

Best

Sebastian
