Add the same song multiple times

hi everyone,

I hope, you are doing good!

As a partyband, there are some songs, which are needed to be played more than once. Like an intro after a short break, a break jingle or the legendary prosit (as you know, my band is from Munich, we gotta play that stupid song a lot).

To not forget to play that song in special times, I would like to be able to add the same song more than once. I’d like to be warned, that this song already exists in the given playlist (with some message like “This element already exists in your setlist, do you still want to add it?” or something like that)., but I nevertheless need to be able to add the song e.g. PROSIT more than once - maybe at the end of every set and sometimes in between.

Thanks in advance! Keep on going, this is great!

Best,

Max

Hey @Basstor,

This has actually come up before from other users (check footnotes below), so it’s on the radar as a feature request. As of now, AbleSet just doesn’t work that way, and supporting true duplicates would mean rewriting some core parts of how the setlist works from the ground up.

Right now, to get a song to show up multiple times, you’ve got two options depending on your setup:

Single-project setup
Duplicate the song’s region on your Ableton timeline so it has two separate locators (e.g. Prosit and Prosit (Reprise)). Each locator counts as its own song, so both show up as separate entries and you can place them anywhere in the setlist.

Multi-File Project setup
Keep two copies of the song file in your project folder. Each file is its own entry, so you can drop it into the setlist as many times as you have copies.

On the warning idea (“this song already exists, add anyway?”), that’s a good UX suggestion, I’ll pass it along together with the broader “add song twice” request.

Hope that helps!

Hey @agustinvolpe,

thanks for the response! The “single project setup” approach is actually what I’m currently doing. Currently we need to play that song like 15-25 times per evening. This kinda messes up the session. It’s just nasty…

But thank you anyways!

Best,

Max

I’m one of the other requestors on this, for us it was our timed breaks and not a repeat song. Blew up my timeline but I just added Singer Break 1, Singer Break 2, etc etc. Same for set breaks…. It’s ugly but it works.
