I was playing around with the mixer and noticed that if I change the level in Ableton, it will offset the position of the fader in the mixer in Ableset. So 0 will now be below or above the rest of the mixer, etc.
I was mostly just playing around to see what would happen and in a live setting I donāt think I would ever go into ableton to adjust the fader and would instead just use Ableset but just wanted to bring this to your attention in case itās a bug. Thanks again for all the great work!
Hey @iamderkis, thank you for reporting this! Could you upload a screen recording of this behavior so I can check if I can reproduce it on my end and look for a fix?
Okay so I believe I have found what is causing the issue.
I have multiple tracks that are set to the same āG:ā i.e. āG:Click, G:Acoustic, etc.ā
The issue came from turning down the āClickā fader in ablesetās mixer and then double tapping on one of the āClickā tracks to bring it back to 0. This only brought the one āClickā group back to 0 and the other is still at -inf. It makes sense that it would happen this way, so my solution for this is to only touch the mixer in Ableset and that makes this no issue as far as I can tell because it is turning all of the tracks that share a name at the same time and then turns them back up at the same time. Ableset does recognize when I adjust the fader using Ableton but since there are multiple tracks that share the same name, it doesnāt adjust the other track while Iām adjusting in Ableton. It is correctable I found. If I go to Ableton and manually set the multiple tracks back to the same level, it went back to functioning correctly.
This is INSANE Leo!!
Iām loving it already, hoping to use it live this Sunday and see how we go. I love the idea of multiple types of canvases.
Am I right in saying that you can choose which canvas to use per device?
I was also wondering if thereās a way I can set up some similar buttons like fade in and fade out, but with different parameters.
For instance what Iāve got are these āsoftenā clips that I trigger from session view, that filter out the track a bit and add a bunch of reverb to use as a transitional tool or a musical way to jump somewhere completely different in the song.
Iād love to be able to trigger these from a button in Ableset now that youāve added all these other incredible features.
I guess my main question is, is this possible currently? Iāve been looking into OSC, but Iām not familiar with it enough to be getting anywhere at the moment, though I have been trying haha
One suggestion I have for the mixer, which is not dissimilar to what others are discussing here Iāve noticed, is that if I double click the ādotā representing the level on the channel, it would be nice to reset that to the ādefaultā +0dB position, if that makes sense.
Not unlike how double clicking works for most fields on Ableton, or some mixing software.
First of all I want to thank you for creating such an amazing tool that helps not only me but Iām sure a lot of people everyday I keep finding new ways to use it , its been amazing .
I want to mention some of my feedback :
I donāt know if this is possible or not but it would be ideal (maybe) to make like a quick access to the different sections like : canvas , mixer , performance , settings , for example say Iām in the performance section and I quickly want to go to the mixer or change something in the main settings I have to close the performance and then find my way to the mixer or whatever which I know it takes 2 clicks or such but in my case as a musician who also MD and run the tracks it would be helpful to have that quick access to the different areas of the ablest . Maybe this is a function on the āCanvasā that I have not seen if so please ignore .
Mixer : works great and does what it promises , there were times that the level bar was not showing or reflection the volume something to consider. ALSO like I said I donāt know if this is something you can do yet but it would be ideal to be able to move the different faders around the mixer , sometimes I would ending with click and guide in the far end of the faders with the master , instruments and such in the middle .
It would be such a good addition also to put the db levels or maybe just the lines of the volume to know which place of the fader its 0 that would help a lot at least for me.
I loved how I just type āCLICKā and automatically adds it to the mixer , it would be cool to have the same feature for the āGUIDEā.
This is it for me so far , I love ableset and its the best purchase I have done and I love how it keeps getting better and better , thank you for also create this space .
The āGOā button on canvas doesnāt appear to exit the LOOPFULL section I made. - EDIT: Strike that, I canāt replicate this so maybe itās user error.
āRemaining time in setā element does āremaining time in songā and needs to be changed to āremainingTimeInSetā in the template.
Youāre probably aware but the Record and Loop descriptions on canvas are incorrect, they both say the button āstarts or stops playbackā. āNext song titleā is also incorrect.
Sorry, hope you donāt mind but Iām just going to keep posting feedback as it comesā¦ seeing a potential issue with the canvas Play/Stop button on a tablet device here. Pressing the button quickly (or rather, not slowly) causes it to fire twice - which means if a song is playing, it will stop and then re-start the song from the beginning in quick succession. Iāve uploaded a video to my Drive folder showing the behaviour. I filmed my tablet but the same behaviour occurs on my phone.
Iām really into this Canvas feature, and I think it got so much potential. As I playing around with it, I think to be able to add the new Mixer feature (selected groups) & Visual Metronome in Canvas mode could make even better. Thanks
This is expected behavior ā AbleSet always keeps the relative volume of tracks within a track group the same and scales the volume slider in a way that if itās all the way at the top, all tracks are at +6 dB and if itās all the way at the bottom, all tracks are at -Inf dB.
This way, you can make a track within the group louder or quieter in Live and still use AbleSetās volume sliders without this change being lost.
Iām glad you like the new features! Regarding your questions:
Yes! Each device can choose which canvas should be displayed, so you can create different canvases for each device if you like.
For your use case, you might find AbletonOSC interesting. This is a Control Surface script that you can install into Ableton Live and which allows you to control all kinds of parameters via OSC.
For example, to trigger the first clip on the first track youād send the following OSC command to AbletonOSC: 127.0.0.1:11000/live/clip/fire 0 0 with the first number being the position of the track and the second number being the position of the clip youād like to trigger. Both values start at 0.
At the risk of there being too many buttons in Performance view, I think it would be great to see the Go button along the bottom panel there. Granted you can add it to the Canvas, but the Performance view is so solid that if the Go button was there too, I imagine a lot of people wouldnāt need to tinker or create custom views.
The way Iād imagine it working is that the Go button would quickly highlight green to register a press, then darken again, but if for example the button was used to hit āPlayā, the Play button would stay highlighted. Hopefully that makes sense.
A shortcut would also be great as I see this as being quite an important button. Perhaps the Enter key?
Hey Leo, I really like how youāve implemented the mixer! Will that be compatible to map with a midi controller? And also, I think it would be nice to add the mixer as part of the canvas options. And my last question, have you ever though of making ableset compatible with session view?
