My name is Matthew Whitaker. I’m a blind professional touring musician, producer, composer, educator, and accessibility advocate. I use Apple’s VoiceOver screen reader on both macOS and iOS every day, and I perform live around the world.
First, I want to say how impressed I am with the direction AbleSet is heading. I’ve been following AbleSet since version 3 was first released, and it’s been exciting to watch it continue to grow into such a powerful live performance platform.
I recently spent some time with the latest version, including the new AbleSet Connect app, and I have to say I’m really impressed. Navigating both the macOS app and the iOS app with VoiceOver feels smooth and intuitive. I was genuinely happy to see how well things work.
I wanted to start this thread because I’d love to help keep that momentum going.
My main goal isn’t to report issues—at least not right now. Instead, I want to help ensure that accessibility continues to be considered as new features are added and existing ones evolve. It’s always easier to build accessibility into a product from the beginning than to retrofit it later, and AbleSet already has a fantastic foundation to build on.
As I continue exploring the software, I’ll gladly share any feedback or suggestions I come across. If there are other VoiceOver users, blind or low-vision musicians, or anyone using other assistive technologies, I’d love to hear about your experiences as well.
A huge thank you to Leo and everyone involved with AbleSet. It’s clear there’s been a lot of thought and care put into the product, and it’s refreshing to use professional live-performance software that already feels so accessible. I’m excited to see where AbleSet goes next and would be happy to help however I can from an accessibility perspective.
