Visual Metronome Color Script

Describe your issue here:

Hello, Is there a way to change the color of the Visual Click in a canvas on the last measure before the next section.

For example. In the chorus and the last 4 beats before going to interlude would be a different click color (yellow) then when going into the interlude it would switch back to default. and again on the last 4 counts before the bridge section it would change to (yellow) and when the bridge section starts it goes back to default.

Please fill out these values to make it easier to troubleshoot:

  • OS and Version: (macOS Tahoe 26.2)
  • Version of AbleSet: (3.0)
  • Version of Ableton Live: (12.3.5)

Hey Stephen,

You actually don’t need scripting for this if what you want is the Visual Metronome to change colors between sections — there’s a much simpler solution :slightly_smiling_face:

You can use a Sections track in your Ableton project flagged with +CC (clip colors).

When you add +CC (or +CLIPCOLORS) to your Sections track, AbleSet will:

  1. Use the clip colors from that track
  2. Reflect them as the section colors in AbleSet
  3. And the Visual Metronome will follow that same section color in Performance View and in the Canvas Visual Metronome element

The Visual Metronome will automatically reflect those section colors.

Would that work for your use case?

Yes thank you this will definately work for me!

Follow up on this am I adding +CC on the sections track for the whole project or on each section?

Hey Stephen,

You only need to add the +CC flag once — in the Sections track name.

So your track should be named exactly like this:

SECTIONS +CC

That’s it, you don’t need to put +CC in any MIDI clip names.

Hope that helps!

Interesting. I have tried this and cannot get it to work. is there something in settings that could be overriding this? I have tried in performance, setlist and canvas view.

Hey Stephen,

For this to work, the only requirements are:

  • You’re using section clips on a MIDI track
  • The flag is in the track name
  • It’s written exactly as +CC (uppercase)

Valid examples:

Sections +CC

or

My Sections +SECTIONS +CC

Could you send a wider screenshot showing how your Sections track looks?

If it’s still not working after this, please feel free to send a Log Package here and make sure to include your project files, so we can take a closer look.

I’m looking forward to your reply!
