Hello! I want to link two Ableton sessions: one with my tracks and another with vocal FX automations. Do you think AbleNet is the way to go if I want to perfectly sync the two sessions?
Hey @YannP,
Yes, as long as the timing and the names of the locators match, you should be able to achieve this just as you described.
Hope that helps!
Just be warned when you are doing two instances of Ableton. They’re using the exact same processing cores for BOTH instances. There is literally no way around it, that is hardcoded into Ableton.
If you’re truly looking for something that can be used like a live vocal effects switcher, you’ll end up having to do what I did for my band. We use gig performer as a VST host running alongside Ableton. Ableton does our backing tracks, LTC time code, guitar patch changes thru midi commands & the click track. And I simply created another midi track that has empty midi blocks that have ableset’s OSC instructions in the block names.
Then I can go into gig performer, which has the ability to do what it calls “rack spaces” per song. Those allow me to do “variations” based on the different parts of the song, which again I can fire off through Ablesets OSC integration.
Gig Performer differs from Ableton in that effects are not cut off the moment your dummy clips end. They decay naturally, more like an effects pedal. I found it frustrating that we would have a part with a solo vocal that has reverb on it. But when the song ended, instead of the reverb continuing and decaying naturally. It just ended…boom done. Very telltale sign of an amateur. ![]()

The chief reason I did this, gig performer is using separate processor cores than Ableton. Not only does that mean both programs run a lot smoother. No drops or hiccups. But it also has the added benefit of native OSC integration. Which is easier to program, allows for “on the fly switching” and isn’t using up midi channels.
Midi channels, we now use to control lightning.
Just letting you know what I went through to set up vocal effects for our rig. And what you might have to go through.
