So time signature changes are one of headaches of Ableton. I know Ableset can’t global time signature automations from a third party M4L device, but what if Ablesets own M4L device had a global time signature control, and then Ableset gets time signature information from it instead of the built in arrangement?

As of now, AbleSet reads time signature directly from Ableton’s arrangement grid (the time signature markers in Live), not from any automation or M4L device. So a native M4L global time signature control wouldn’t change anything on AbleSet’s end unless AbleSet itself were rebuilt to read from a different source instead of the grid.

I get it, I know it would be a big project to commit to, but I definitely think you guys should look into it, even if that involves core changes to the architecture. Time signature automation is a frustration for anyone who uses Ableton in arrangement mode, especially when merging projects. If you guys did this it would be a game changer when it comes to preparing sets.
Yeah this is sort of a headache especially with songs that have lots of time signature changes. I like to have the grid line up with the song so I add them in manually when making a new set. It would be nice if it were possible even with something like the “add-locators” automatically.
You could just note the time signature with a midi clip and then it auto add them. But that is probably more of an ableton limitation I would imagine.
Hey @iamderkis, you’re right. Unfortunately, adding time signature changes isn’t possible using Live’s API. If that changes, I can take a look at how to implement this in a smart way ![]()
So would an update that makes it so time signature data coming from Ableton’s global time signature rather than the drawn in arrangement be possible? There are already M4L devices that can automate the global time signature, so if Ableset just read the global signature that would be a very useful and presumably simple workaround
