Sync Playback Now issues with AbleNet

Hi Leo!

I had an interesting issue with Sync Playback Now not working.

I’m running 2x RME MADIface XT for playback redundancy, and 1x PlayAudio12 for MainStage redundancy. I’ve got AbleNet enabled for the playback computers. When I noticed “Sync Playback Now” wasn’t working, I restarted AbleSet. Once it re-opened, I saw the green “PlayAudio” icon appear. Then, Sync Playback Now started working.

I’m confused because I’m not using an iConnectivity interface for playback. I was previously using a PA1U for playback this week, but after having critical issues, I moved over to the RME. I’m also not connecting my comps running MainStage / PA12 to my network running AbleNet.

I do have RTP connections going between the Playback and MainStage computers, but I’m confused why “Sync Playback Now” would only function when AbleSet / AbleNet recognizes an iConnectivity device.

Any insight / troubleshooting you can provide would be greatly helpful.

Lately, I have actually had trouble getting Sync Playback Now to work and I’m using a PlayAudio1U. Haven’t submitted anything yet because I haven’t done much troubleshooting to make sure it’s not user error but figured I’d mention it here. Everything else about Ablenet works great.

Thank you for reporting this issue! This feature should work regardless of which audio interface you’re using. The only condition is that playback is paused on one of the computers.

If this happens again, could you create a log package for me so I can take a closer look and check what might be going wrong?

You can create one by opening AbleSet’s status window, clicking the settings icon on the top right, and then selecting “Create Log Package”.

If you like, you can also send me a video of your setup and the issue. If the files are too large to send via email, you can upload them to my support inbox instead.

I actually tested this again yesterday and when I removed the ip address from the “connect to custom ip” section, it worked right away. Then it stopped working when I typed the ip address in again. So it works great when there is no ip address in the connect to custom ip address section. Everything else about Ablenet appears to work flawlessly regardless. It’s just the Sync Playback Now that doesn’t work when there is an ip address listed.

I have a hunch on what might be causing this, and this issue might already be fixed with the new implementation of AbleNet in the AbleSet 3 beta :slight_smile:

Hi @leolabs, if I can recreate the issue, I’ll be happy to send a log package. The green PlayAudio bubble hasn’t been appearing any more, and AbleNet / Sync PlayBack Now have both been working great for me since I submitted this ticket.
