Storing AbleSet Settings as Part of the Live Project

This is an idea I had for a while, and I’d be interested in getting your feedback on this.

Currently, settings and customization in AbleSet are stored in AbleSet’s settings folder independently of the project you’re working on. For most use cases, this should be fine, but when you’re using the same computers for multiple bands or sharing a project between multiple playback engineers, storing them in the project might be practical.

I could imagine a file structure like this:

A switch in the settings menu could enable this feature. If an AbleSet folder doesn’t exist in the project yet, AbleSet could automatically create one containing the current settings.

What do you think, does this sound like a useful feature?

I’m looking forward to your feedback!

I would surely use this.

This is absolutely good!

Yes, I like this idea as I have several vastly different setups that run on the same playback rig with different MIDI mappings (and now, Canvases) - and using different interfaces. It takes a while to re-configure Ableset when going from one to the other.

This would be fantastic! My only concern would be the possibility of Ableton overriding/cleaning up the third-party data within the project folder. As long as we’re sure that’s not going to happen, then this is gold

I don’t think that Ableton makes any changes to the project folder by itself, so that shouldn’t be an issue.
