iPad Pro 3rd Gen - iOS 26.5 running Ableset Connect App
I am hoping I could get some assistance with a hardware/software MIDI control.
Current Setup: I am running Ableton 12 with Ableset installed on my Macbook Pro, currently connected to my SPDSX Pro via USB Midi. While in this configuration, MIDI remote control and MIDI assignments are natively handled perfectly through the Macbook Pro USB class compliance. Able set is able to be controlled via my SPDSX Pro ONLY WHEN CONNECTED TO THE MACBOOK PRO via USB MIDI. I am then using my iPad Pro 3rd gen via Ableset Connect as a back up control in the event the SPDSX Pro Fails.
Desired Setup and the Issue at hand: I want to be able to remove my MACBOOK to a sidestage location and simply run the SPDSX Pro to the iPad Pro via Ableset Connect. However, Ablset Connect does not recognize the Roland UM1 MIDI Interface and I am unable to setup MIDI mappings as a result. Based on what I have read online and via other sources, I should be able to run Ablset from my SPDSX as a MIDI controller from my iPAD Pro with the Roland UM1 Interface since iPads are not USB class compliant. I am able to use other apps like STAGETRAXX 4 and I am able to MIDI map from the SPDSX connected to the iPad Pro through the Roland UM1, but not from Ablset Connect.

Yes, this is exactly what AbleSet Connect’s MIDI Forwarding is for.
There are two forwarding modes:
Native MIDI Forwarding
This is the one you want. It’s on by default and makes all MIDI devices connected to your iPad available to AbleSet for the built-in MIDI features (MIDI mapping, sending MIDI via OSC/scripting). No setup needed beyond the toggle. If multiple hosts are on the network (e.g. an AbleNet setup), it makes the devices available to all of them.
RTP MIDI Forwarding
This forwards MIDI from the iPad to any computer or device on the network that supports RTP MIDI (you’d create an RTP MIDI Session on the Mac in Audio MIDI Setup → MIDI Studio → globe icon, set “Who may connect to me” to “Anyone”, then enable the session in AbleSet Connect). Useful for other software, but for AbleSet mapping you don’t need it — Native is enough.
It would be worth checking:
On the iPad, open AbleSet Connect and go to Settings. The MIDI Forwarding sections appear at the bottom of the AbleSet Connect Menu (they only show up in the app, not in the browser version).
Make sure Native MIDI Forwarding is enabled.
With the UM-ONE connected and the toggle on, the UM-ONE’s port should now show up in AbleSet’s MIDI mapping list. You can add the mappings either from the iPad or from the Mac.
If it still doesn’t show up, could you please create a Log Package? You can create one by opening AbleSet’s icon tray, clicking the gear icon, and then selecting “Create Log Package”. Please make sure to include your project files as well (just the .als files, no audio needed). You can upload everything to AbleSet’s support inbox.
Thank You for that explanation. At first the MIDI Forwarding option was not showing up on the iPad. I then ran a check for updates on Ableset via the MacBook, and after an update the MIDI Forwarding became available. Everything is working as it should. Thank You again for the response and the guidance.
