Separating Play and Pause/Stop buttons

Especially on safe mode, would be great if the play and pause buttons were in separate, discrete places on ableset - that could prevent accidentally re-triggering a song after trying to double press/click to stop playback.

Like for keyboard shortcuts, perhaps play could remain “spacebar” and stop/pause could be “return” or “backspace/delete”

Hey @professoroak, thank you for your suggestion, that’s an interesting idea!

Did you run into this situation of accidentally re-starting a song after stopping it?

As a workaround, if you have a MIDI controller or a Stream Deck, you could use it to assign a dedicated button just for stop and play

hahah yes I accidentally re-started a song trying to quickly stop playback but it was actually just in soundcheck! It was one of those things where I knew I should watch out for it during a show and in my normal rig I always use a midi oaktone-style controller.

just figured if safe mode is to be truly “safe” play/stop should be seperated

Just thinking about this some more, I could also add some kind of safety delay that disables the play/pause button for ~200ms after playback has been paused to prevent an accidental third tap that would start playback again. What do you think, would that also work for you?

Yes that’d be great as well! Shoot, even if it was like 0.5 seconds that’d probably be even safer. (or if the delay was customizable?)

I’ve just implemented this and it feels good to me with a 500ms delay.

I’ll release this with the next beta version, then you could test this on your end as well and let me know if you like this solution as well
