+PAUSE causes PLAY arrow to BLINK

I use the +PAUSE feature in many of my Sections/Songs (long story).
But I would like a BIGGER BOLDER visual indication that Ableset has Ableton in a PAUSE state.

When AS arrives at a +PAUSE section (which in Ableton terms, is different than “STOP”, is that right?) I would like the AS PLAY (arrow) button (in Performance and Lyrics view, and on the new beta Canvas?) to blink, and/or change shape/color… something really noticeable…that shouts “I am Paused, awaiting your next move”

Makes me think about an (old old) CD Player, when the play arrow blinks, indicating Pause.

Hey @nevillewhitemusic, that’s a good idea!

Currently, AbleSet doesn’t track whether it’s in a paused state upon reaching a +PAUSE marker – it just instructs Live to stop playback and moves the start marker to the location of the +PAUSE marker.

I’ll check if I can introduce a dedicated pause state that can be reflected in the play button design :slight_smile:

Maybe, does any “blinking” play button have to be based on an Ableton “state”.
Maybe since Ableset sends the PAUSE to Ableton, can Ableset make the Playbutton blink (or something), and this isn’t based on any Ableton status…it is all an Ableset thing. (And whenever/whatever the next button is hit in AS, AS stops the blinking )

Another possible idea about this…

What if instead of the PLAY button blinking when in a “paused” state, perhaps the the word “P A U S E D” would blink (big font) in the middle of the line of color for that song line (i.e., the strip/band of color highlighting the current song), and perhaps “P A U S E D” blinking in a big font in Performance View.

Or, if Sections are expanded in the Setlist view (or toggled on in Performance View) the Paused SECTION would blink, and/or the word “P A U S E D” would be blinking.

Hi Leo,
thanks for adding the .6 Beta blinking Play button when in Pause.

I would like to request 3 things.

  1. My key goal was to get a blinking Play button when AS has arrived at an Ableset “+PAUSE section”…and AS has put Ableton into a Pause state. Could the blinking Play button be implemented via the AS +Pause section?
  2. Can the blinking be more profound? Right now it is slow, and the contrast is low. Could it be faster, and “more bright to more black” (maybe another color even)?
  3. Could the blinking Play button also work on the Lyrics page?

You’re right, the +PAUSE locator doesn’t make Live actually pause internally, so the button didn’t show the same state as if you were to press it. I’ve fixed this and will release it with the next beta of AbleSet.

Regarding the styling of the play button, I had tried to make it more visible but found it a bit too distracting. You can, however, apply your own styles to the play button using the custom styles feature.

I’ll also make the paused state visible on the play button in lyrics :slight_smile:
