Moving to another PC, which Ableset .json files, etc should I copy to new PC

In Windows, it seems there are many .json files in \Appdata (I assume they are in some other folder in the Apple OS).

Which .json files should I copy to the new PC?
Which other files? (or should I copy the entire \appdata folder (and if so, what about the “license-v2.key” file? )

  • **OS and Version: Windows 11
  • **Version of AbleSet: 2.7.4
  • **Version of Ableton Live: 11.3.3

@nevillewhitemusic you should be able to copy the entire Appdata directory if you’d like to transfer all settings. The license file won’t be valid on your new computer so you’ll need to activate AbleSet again, but it shouldn’t be an issue to copy it as well.

Let me know if that works for you!

Well that is easy.
Let me ask one more question…
If I have an older version of Ableset on the previous laptop, and on the new laptop install a newer version …and copy over the old \appdata folder, is there a chance some .json and\or meta files will be missing some properties required for the newest version?

I haven’t tried this myself, but AbleSet should handle this gracefully. All settings have a default value that is used when the setting doesn’t exist yet.
