Hi there.
I have a redundant playaudio1U, mioXL setup and i’m using m-vave chocolate footswitch to control ableset live on stage. It’s happened now twice that the pedal seem to get like midi confused and just randomly switches around. Like if i press play it might count in the first bar of the song i pressed play on and then jump to the previous/next song randomly after that. And once this behavior has begun it continunes for the rest of the show so i have to go to my computer and switch in ableset. Has this happened to anyone?
Also currently the footswitch is sending CC messages, is it better to send either Note ON, Note OFF or PC messages? I’m a bit confused on what’s happening.
I’m currently running Ableset 2.5.2
Thanks,
Vakle
Hey @Vakle_Music, welcome to the forum!
This usually means extra or duplicate MIDI messages are reaching AbleSet, so a single press ends up firing more than one action.
If the Chocolate is connected via Bluetooth and USB at the same time, both connections deliver the same messages, so every press can trigger twice. Make sure it’s connected through only one of them. As a test, connect it directly via USB and disable/forget the Bluetooth connection.
As the Chocolate has a proprietary app, it would be worth checking switch settings (latching/momentary) there too.
Regarding CC vs. Note, the message type on its own shouldn’t cause the random jumping, so switching won’t necessarily fix it, but mapping to Note does give you cleaner press behavior than a toggle-style CC, so it’s worth trying to rule that out. In AbleSet, CC mappings use the “Velocity” trigger, while Note mappings give you Press / Double Press / Hold.
To actually see what’s going on, grab a capture with a MIDI monitor while you reproduce the glitch. That’ll show us exactly what the pedal is sending, whether it’s doubling up, which input it is coming from etc.
Let me know how it goes!
