Glitches During Live Performance Using Ableset

Hi everyone,
I’m an Ableset user and I really need your help because I’m having issues during live shows with my artist. Several times, the session has audio dropouts or glitches that affect the performance.

Here’s my setup in case anyone can guide me:

  • MacBook Pro M4
  • Ableton 12
  • Ableset updated to the latest version
  • Using SoundGrid as my audio interface (connected via a high-capacity Thunderbolt cable)
  • Connecting my iPad to the computer via USB cable, following Ableset’s official instructions
  • The session is quite light: I’m not running any plugins, just pre-processed STEMS. Also, my computer is only using about 1–2% CPU.

Has anyone else experienced this?
Any recommendations to optimize my setup and avoid these issues?

Any help would be greatly appreciated — I really want to fix this so it doesn’t affect our shows.

Thanks so much in advance!

What is your buffer size? You sometimes have to set those lower than you normally would on an intel-based Mac so that it doesn’t swap to the efficiency cores. That may not be your issue but I saw Will Doggett post a video about this when the M1 came out.

Hey @Jose_Silverio, welcome to the forum!

I don’t have any experience with SoundGrid, unfortunately, but the buffer size in Live could be an issue. If it’s too high, macOS might switch Live to your efficiency cores during playback which could cause dropouts.

Have you tried to run audio through another app like Safari, Spotify, etc. to check if this issue is isolated to Live? For example, I had similar issues with RME interfaces a while ago which turned out to be a driver issue. In that case, audio dropped out on the entire system every 10-15 minutes, not just Live.

I hope this helps and look forward to your reply!
