Floating Window unexpectedly switches to the other AbleNet host during network lag

Hi Leo,

I found a possible Floating Window issue with AbleNet.

I have two computers connected to the same network switch with static IPs. When the network briefly lags or becomes unstable, the Floating Window on computer A can unexpectedly switch to computer B.

“Follow Current Audio Interface Scene” is turned off on both computers, so I would expect each Floating Window to stay on its own host. Thanks!

have another important question about AbleNet.

In a redundant setup, if I need to pause only computer B, pressing Pause in AbleSet on B will also pause computer A through AbleNet. Right now, the only way I’ve found is to pause B directly in Ableton Live.

Is there a recommended way to control or pause only the local AbleSet host without affecting the other AbleNet computer?

Thanks Leo, looking forward to your reply!

Hey @GOODSHOW,

Thank you for reporting this!

To look into the Floating Window issue, could you please create a Log Package on both computers right after the Floating Window switches to computer B?
You can create a log package by opening AbleSet’s icon tray, clicking the gear icon, and then selecting “Create Log Package”.
Please make sure to include your project files as well (just the .als files, no audio needed).
To send the files, you can upload them to AbleSet’s support inbox.

Also, a few questions:

  1. On each computer, is the other computer’s IP entered in the Connect to Custom IPs field? You’ll find it in Settings, in the AbleNet section for that computer.
  2. Do the computers have more than one network interface active (for example Ethernet and WiFi)? If so, make sure the correct one is selected under Preferred Network, which you’ll find by clicking the gear icon in AbleSet’s icon tray.

As for pausing only computer B, AbleNet syncs playback across all hosts, so pausing from AbleSet on either computer pauses both. There’s currently no built in way to pause only the local host from AbleSet, so for now, pausing B directly in Ableton Live is the way to go.

When you want B back in sync with A, click Sync Playback Now in B’s AbleNet settings. B then jumps to A’s current position and starts playing. You can also trigger this by sending this OSC command to AbleSet on computer B:

/ableNet/syncToRemote

You can also see this in action in the official tutorial.

Could you tell me more about why you need to pause B during the show?
I’d like to understand your use case a bit better.

I’m looking forward to your reply!
