Edit song sections in setlist

I would love to have the ability to edit song sections within the setlist, similar to how you can already delete and rearrange the order of songs on that page.

This is kind of possible using the Automatic Jump notation, though you can’t do it within the setlist editor.

I’ll see if I can add a more visual method of changing the order of sections.

This would be a huge feature for use in my church, as we will often adjust song arrangements during rehearsal based on the flow of service that week.

One additional suggestion would be the ability to toggle a fade out on the mixer for a section as well. This allows sections with more active tracks to be cut short without feeling unnatural.

If you’re on AbleSet 3 (beta), you can already do this using OSC / OSC tracks.

You can trigger a fade-out at any point in a song or section by sending a mixer fade command, for example:

/mixer/<group-name>/fadeTo 0
  • You can provide a 2nd argument, which is the fade speed. When set to 1, fading from +6 to -Inf dB takes 5 seconds. Higher values lead to faster fades.

This works great for cutting a section short in a musical way during rehearsal or live. You can place it on an +OSC track, trigger it from a controller, set it up on a Canvas Button, or even combine it with section jumps.

Thanks for the reply. Fading itself is something I already have set up. This request is specifically for an option on sections in the setlist manager in order to plan out arrangement changes ahead of time.

I know this is something that we can do in ableton itself with an osc track and +SKIP locators, but the ability to make these changes in the setlist view would open up members of our team without technical knowledge of ableton to make adjustments to the flow reliably.

Thank you for your input on this! I don’t think I’ll be able to integrate this feature into AbleSet 3.0.0, but I should have more time after the release to take a closer look at how this could be implemented.

Currently, the setlist editor only works on a per-song basis, replacing the section toggle with a drag handle for moving songs around, but I might be able to somehow make sections available as well so they can be rearranged more easily.

In the meantime, please let me know if you have any further comments on this feature :slight_smile:
