Describe your issue here:
Hello, a quick question. I’m using Ableset with my daughters who are still learning some of the trickier chords to the songs we’re learning together. I’m using the multi-file setlist option. Is there a way to have the image in the Canvas correspond to the song that we are playing instead of having one static image for the setlist? I see the dynamic image option but I think that is a link to one online file per setlist, as far as I understand it.
I’d like to give them an image file with a chord chart for each song, but as of now, I can only figure out how to insert an image that persists for the entire setlist. As a workaround, I am going to create an image file that has all tricky chord shapes across all songs, but it’s getting crowded. Thank you for any insights – and happy to move this to feature request if it’s not yet possible. As always, I’m grateful for your terrific software!!
Please fill out these values to make it easier to troubleshoot:
- OS and Version: Windows 11
- Version of AbleSet: 3.0
- Version of Ableton Live: 12.3
Hey @seandewitt,
You actually don’t need the workaround. The Lyrics feature is built exactly for this, and since you’re on a multi-file setup, each song can have its own dedicated chord chart image. Here’s how:
1. Add a Lyrics folder to each song’s project
Inside each song’s Ableton project folder, create a folder called Lyrics and drop the chord chart image(s) for that song inside (PNG, JPEG, GIF, SVG, or WEBP all work).
2. Create a lyrics track in that .als file
Add a MIDI track and name it something like:
Chords +LYRICS [full]
The [full] flag makes images fill the entire screen, which works great with chord charts.
3. Add a clip referencing the image
Create a MIDI clip and name it:
Use the relative path from the Lyrics folder. If the clip spans the whole song, the image stays on screen the entire time. If you want different chord shapes to appear at different moments, just add more clips at the right positions, each pointing to a different image.
4. Open the Lyrics view in AbleSet
The image will follow the song automatically as you switch between them in the setlist.
One bonus tip: if you ever have a PDF with multiple chord chart pages, the Image Lyrics Track Generator on the AbleSet website will turn it into a ready-to-import lyrics track with one clip per page.
You can also see this in action in the official tutorial.
Let me know if this works for your use case!

Dear @agustinvolpe ,
Thank you for your detailed help. This is just PERFECT. I missed this feature during the Lyrics video, as I clicked away too soon in my excitement to get the ChordPro chords in there!
Thank you, Agustin. I am going to try this now!
