Hi! First, Ablest 3 has been such a game changer for me. For context, I am a Worship Pastor and I use Ablest to control Ableton at Church. The canvas feature is awesome! It’s super helpful to be able to customize things to how I need them to be. One thing i’m trying to figure out is when creating a button in the canvas, is it possible for that button to be an image rather than a label or an icon?

Glad to hear AbleSet 3 has been working well for you!
At the moment, buttons in Canvas can’t directly use arbitrary images as their content.
What you can use instead is are Icons and Icon templates.
The icon template field lets you define an icon dynamically (using expressions), but it still relies on the built-in icon set rather than loading a custom image file.
That said, depending on what you’re trying to achieve visually, sometimes you can get pretty close using emojis, dynamic labels and/or background colors + icon combinations.

I just released a AbleSet 3.1.0-beta.3 of AbleSet that allows you to disable the background of Button elements. This lets you place buttons on top of images for more customization.
