In DOCS for “AbleSet’s Cue Notation” in the section about “Automatic Jumps / Transitions” it says “The target section needs to be defined with a locator or, if you’re using section clips, have a locator at the same position as the section clip defining the section.”
And, yup, indeed I always need to add a locator when using >>> (a jump).
But yet, I find an odd undocumented behavior. When I add the locator, and I rename it (replacing the Ableton created Locator number, with some text (like “Verse x”) Ableset gives the error (in setlist) saying there is “no locator”. But if I leave the locator named with a number, everything works (no error)
If this is a bug, well I should have input this in “support”. (and if it is a bug, it certainly is not very important)
If this is not a bug, but rather an Ableton engine constraint (?) or some design thing, then, I am just suggesting that it may be helpful for others if DOCs (section for Automatic Jump LOCATORS) could be updated to include this locator/naming info.

AS ver: 7.3.1
Hey @nevillewhitemusic,
for AbleSet to recognize a locator as a section, it needs to start with a >
. Otherwise, it’s interpreted as a song and you can’t jump to it automatically.
Could you try renaming your locators and adding a >
at the beginning, e.g. > Verse 1
, and check if that helps?
I’m looking forward to your reply!
Hi Leo,
I can tell, without even trying it, that you got it exactly. I will have to rename the Locators. Thanks
Hey, I will toss in this idea…the Ableset Tool called “Place Locators on Section Clips”, it adds locators and keeps the Ableton numbers for each name. Would it be possible to make your tool use the Midi Clip name of each section for the created Locator Names?
thanks for all your terrific design and solutions. Terrific product!
Hey @nevillewhitemusic, I’m happy this works for you!
Regarding your question, unfortunately, Ableton doesn’t currently allow third-party plugins to rename locators, so AbleSet has to rely on the default naming scheme, which is just incrementing numbers.
If this ability is added to their plugin API in the future, I’ll make sure to add this to AbleSet as well! ![ ](https://forum.ableset.app/images/emoji/twitter/slight_smile.png?v=12)
Yes, I kind of assumed that would be the answer. You have a great track record of thinking about the whole picture, and you add so many things that help the User, so I sensed this “locator rename cannot be done via the AS tool” was going to be an Ableton architecture limitation.
Thanks Leo.
btw, I am on a quest for some reason, to help point out wherever the AS documentation could be improved. I realize from one viewpoint, “I should have known” I needed to insert a “>” in the name, but (unless I missed some docs), maybe the AS “Place Locators on Section Clips” tool could send a reminder message to the User that a rename and > is required. (Just trying to minimize your support burden…you are building quite a terrific app here).

That’s a good point! I’ve added a reminder to the section track documentation ![ ](https://forum.ableset.app/images/emoji/twitter/slight_smile.png?v=12)
