Hey,
me again…. I wonder if there is a chance to toggle a specific Ableton plugin on/off via Ableset.
Usecase: for live vocal tuning, signal gets routed through a Ableton channelstrip with has an “audio effect rack” with one chain of Waves Real Tune per song. Any chance to globally toggle on/off this “audio effect rack” Plugin? Ideally a button in a canvas doing the toggle, with button color representative of the toggle state.
I managed to toggle a channel strip on/off via the mixer feature with your help, however I’m not sure if you get a signal deep down into Ableton to toggle a plugin….
Best,
Sebastian
P.S. What I can obviously do is toggle the plugin directly via my Midi-Pad into Ableton, however there is no way to see the on/off status in my ableset canvas surface which is the only thing I see during a live show…..
Hey Sebastian,
with this you’re gonna want to utilise the IAC (MacOS only but similar windows apps).
Send a MIDI command from Ableset to IAC driver then have the IAC driver setup as remote into Ableton.
Then use Ableton’s midi map feature to assign that note coming from Ableset to that plugin on/off.
So it should look like Ableset → IAC Driver → Ableton. If you wanted to have it as a button.
If you want to automate it you can create a midi track in Ableton and create a midi clip that sends that note out of Ableton into the IAC driver and then back into Ableton. You would setup In: IAC Driver Remote, Out: IAC Driver Track to avoid a midi feedback loop.
Hope this helps
EDIT: just saw you want to see the state. That might be a bit tricky. You can fake it where the colour can change colour depending on the press but can’t exactly read the state of the plugin. So it would always change when pressing button in canvas but won’t update if you manually change it in Ableton
Hey, okay, that’s seems indeed difficult. Without a clear reliable indication of the switch status, it Is probably limited in application - can’t really go this way and have it unintentionally being switched off without noticing.
Maybe I just add another full channel with the same ins and outs and toggle the mute status via the mixer? However I am not sure if this causes some pops/clicks when switching (which is also obsolete as this is the main singers channel….). Any help how to configure a Canvas Butten that is essentially toggling between the two channels (but only one active at a time), and indicating the status A/B via Color?
Best,
Sebastian
