Add same song twice in a set

Hello Léo
For a band i need to add the same song twice in a set, at the beginning and in the end of the set but i can’t do it with setlist view
Thx

Hey @YannP,

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, at the moment, each song can only appear once in your setlist. This is an inherent limitation of how I designed the data structure under the hood, but I’d like to improve this in the future.

In the meantime, the easiest way to achieve what you want is to duplicate the song in your Ableton Live arrangement. I understand that this isn’t optimal, but I hope it works for you as a workaround.

I’ll let you know when I make progress on this!

Sounds great!

To second this request, we have controls for the mixer in special Ableton songs (e.g. Mute mixer/band break, Unmute, etc), which are used throughout the set.

It would be handy to only have one copy of those files, but they’re small, so right now duplicates are doing the job.

Hey Leo, any update on this? This is a very much needed and required feature for certain applications like worship bands / churches. We have several elements that need to repeat on a sunday set for transitions and other purposes.

Hey @drs,

This is taking more time than expected, unfortunately, but it’s still something I’m working on. I can’t give you an ETA yet, but you’ll see it in a beta as soon as it’s ready to be tested.

If I understand your scenario correctly, it sounds like the same solution I am seeking. To have a “song” that executes in-between every song (a helpful in-between songs method to “reset”…to execute various mutes, pedal resets, etc…for example, turn the echo off the Singers mic, and change the stage lighting, which will help in audience interaction in-between songs, etc etc.)

It would be efficient / a clean design to have the same “reset song” play (just like any other song), and have this same song inserted / duplicated in-between all songs.

Well, I am benefit sooo much from Ableset, so I am just fine waiting for this Ableset database architecture challenge to play out.

that’s one way to use it, yes, for example I have a “pads off” song that fades out wathever autopads it’s playing for transitions in between songs.
The workaround I’ve done now it’s jus simply duplicating that song as many times as I need on the set (sometimes up to 6 or 7 times), which is not a very elegant solution.
But apart from that, just the ability to add a real song for the second time in a set, especially for an encore… Some of our worship concerts are about 12 to 14 songs, and usually we repeat song one or two at the end for an encore.
Duplicating an entire song just so we can have it on the setlist is not that good. The other challenge is keeping up with changes on the arrangement. If we make any change on it, it has to be duplicated on the ableton set, can become cumbersome to maintain.
Any updates on this feature Leo?

In addition to playing same song twice we have now a new usecase for having multiple same songs in a set. We want to build our set lighting to be more dynamic whatever setlist order we have.

First song to not have any programmed lights. Then half gets enabled. Then other gets enabled and first is dimmed out. At the end both halves of our light programming are enabled.

To make this work, we need to duplicate these control songs in Ableton side:
Dim A
Enable A
Dim B
Enable B

Would love to have the data architecture improved.
