I have multiple softwares running on the same computer - Ableton + AbleSet, as well as Vista for lighting. I have two different MIDI input devices plugged in. In my case, one of them is a MIDI drum pad, and the other is an interface for MTC timecode.
If I launch AbleSet FIRST, the other MIDI devices on my computer no longer work. I’m guessing this is because AbleSet registers listeners for every connected MIDI input, and Windows doesn’t allow multiple applications to use the same MIDI device. So if I then launch Vista and attempt to use my MTC timecode, it won’t work - even though I don’t have any AbleSet MIDI commands mapped to that device.
The solution to this is to launch AbleSet LAST, after I’ve already opened everything else. That way, Vista connects to the MTC device, and then once AbleSet launches, it can connect to the drum pad.
This happens with all softwares I’ve tested, so it’s not just a Vista issue. This is of course a minor inconvenience, but it did take me a while to initially identify the issue.
It also does not appear to be an Ableton issue, as everything works fine if I were to launch Ableton, then Vista, then AbleSet.
