Ableset as a Studio / Writing tool

hello @leolabs

Most of the posts suggest Ableset is being used onstage as a live performance tool, mainly in music and theatre.

What about using Ableset as a studio tool for brainstorming & writing?

If Ableset would allow us to quickly arrange a ‘Sequence’ of individual sections, and save it, that might be nice.

Ableset runs a ‘Sequence’ without the need for a human to trigger sections via a MIDI pad or controller (prev.section, next.section etc.) thus freeing up that human to play their instrument without any MIDI-triggering distractions.

  • e.g. intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus, chorus, gap, gap, verse, middle 8, verse, chorus, end, end, finish

Of course this could all be done in Ableton itself but that means finicky cut&paste fiddling, maybe going back and forth between Ableton and Ableset to set locators etc.

Thanks everyone,

:L

Hey @pilband,

If you’re working in a separate project file per song, you could place a song locator at the start of each section (e.g. Chorus instead of > Chorus) which would then allow you to drag the order of sections around in the setlist editor.

The only limitation with this is that you can’t play any given song more than once at a time, since AbleSet currently only supports adding a song once per set.

Let me know if this would already help with your workflow
