"Favorite Sections"

It would be awesome if we could have buttons that select “favorite sections” for a given song that are always present in performance view, canvas, stream deck, etc.

Maybe indicating the specific midi region sections in ableton using a labels like “FAV1, FAV2” etc.

This thought came about because of a couple of things.

  • I always have a looping click at the end of each track and often need to quickly fire just the click rather than the whole track. Since the click is at the end of the track I have to scroll to the end of each track to fire said click.

  • If there’s ever a time we get off the track, (playing with church volunteers can make that more common then most would hope ) I always prefer to fade the tracks out, jump to a click section, settle everyone back in, then jump back and fade in the proper section of the track. Having that click section “favorited” and always available would make those moments much easier to manage.

  • I’d also like being able to have dedicated “looping sections” that have track elements more tailored to loop rather that a vox the gets cutoff mid phrase, or a hook that pickups when were not actually going into the next section, etc. This way if we are flowing with just a click and want to re-introduce track elements we can use those sections rather than one of the typical song sections.

Hope this makes sense!

Hey @Jacob_Porter,

Thank you for your feedback!

AbleSet offers a feature called “Quick Play Locators” that allow you to prefix any section with a >> in order to display them in the performance view.

Alternatively, you could also use OSC to jump to specific sections in your song by pressing a button in your canvas or on your MIDI controller. For example, /setlist/jumpToSection FAV1 will jump to the first section called FAV1 in your song. To make this more flexible, /setlist/jumpToSection FAV1 true jumps to the first section whose name contains FAV1, so your section could be called Chorus FAV1 for example.

Here’s a list of all relevant OSC commands: Controlling AbleSet via OSC – AbleSet

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions or feedback!
